June News

May 25, 2018

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we have come to the final month of school for the academic year 2017-2018.

The June calendar is full of wonderful celebrations!  We have Step UP and Grade 8 graduation; we have our final fundraiser our Walk a Thon and our end of year Field Day /Carnival in the school yard.  June is a busy month, keep this calendar handy. As per our policy stated in the Handbook, all families must be in good standing in order for their child to participate in kindergarten Step UP and grade 8 graduation.   Families must also be paid in full for the year in order for the student to attend any end of year trip and the Field Day. Make sure you have spoken to our financial secretary, Joan Palinkas and all payments have been made.

As per our handbook all outstanding payments – tuition, after school, fundraising fee, service hours, late fees, step up and graduation fees- must be paid in order for any child to participate in the end of year events: walk a thon/carnival, step up, graduation, trips.   No report cards will be given to any student if outstanding payments are due. No records will be released.

The spring show was a huge success.  I thank all of you for supporting our production.  It was great fun for all. Please read the notices sent home today, on the parking lot and Walk a Thon.  Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers and grandfathers, godfathers, and uncles…

May News

  Dear Families,

I wish all of our mothers and grandmothers a very blessed Mother’s Day.  During the month of May we will focus on our Blessed Mother, Mary. We will say a decade of the rosary each morning.  Please have your rosary beads with you. As a Catholic academy we will hold a May Crowning on May 14th.  We will have our First Communion children dress in their communion clothes and assist us in our crowning.  You are all invited to attend.

We will host our Spring Show on Wednesday, May 23rd .  Our theme is “Music of Disney”.  Tickets will go on sale May 7th.  Admission will be $5.00.  More information on the show and costumes came in a separate flyer.. Doors will open at 6:15PM for all ticket holders.  There will be no after school on May 23 in order to be ready for the show.

Congratulations and God bless to our 8th graders who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on April 26th  and to our First Communion children who will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Eucharist on May 5th.

Remember  !!! May means Scholastic Book Fair    May 8th to May 10th

April News- Updates

April News

We have several additions to our calendar that we sent home prior to the Easter Break in March:  Please note these events…

Wednesday, April 18th   School-wide trip to Manhattan- National Geographic Encounter.   Students attending should bring paper bag lunch and dress in their gym uniform and sneakers.

Those not attending, we do not hire a substitute teacher if you chose not to send your child on a school trip.

Monday, April 23    Culture Day at SCCA

St. Camillus Catholic Academy is a diverse community , comprised of people of many  wonderful cultures and ethnicities. Our students, staff and teachers are themselves an immigrant or their parents or grandparents immigrated to the United States .  We thank the United States of America for welcoming us and making us part of the family we call AMERICA. WE are no longer the “Melting Pot” we are now a “Mosaic” , each tile keeping its identity and bringing its unique qualities to the larger picture.

We want to celebrate this diversity with a culture Day.

On Monday, April 23, 2018 we will celebrate with food, language, artwork, music, dance, and traditional costumes.   We need your help to make this happen. Parents we need you to send in food from your country, students we need you to come in with symbols of your ethnic background, wear your traditional clothes of your country…parents we need you to help to supervise the event, you can earn hours….  Please call the office 718-634-5260 to respond or email

Wednesday, April 25    $1.00 NUT day   sorry the dress down day was omitted from the calendar.

Friday, April 27, 2018  There is no school for grades kindergarten to grade 8.  Teachers must attend Professional Development at St. John’s University.   There is school for Pre K for All. No After School for Pre-K

If you did not send in your chocolate money, it has been added to your accounts.

April News

Rejoice in the Resurrection
Happy Easter to all of our families!
New York State Exams
Students in grades 4, 6 and 8 will take the NYS exams in ELA in April. Please make sure your child gets
plenty of rest, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time ready to do their best.
Tips for helping your child manage test anxiety.  Make sure your child attends school regularly so that they are exposed to all schoolwork that
will be covered.  Doing well on an exam is easier if a student has been consistently completing school
assignments and homework.  Create and maintain a routine at home that will help your child be well rested.  Talk and encourage your child to do their best.  Help you child develop a positive attitude towards test taking- a “can do” attitude.
April Fundraiser
We are running our April Showers of Cash Raffle -only $50 to enter. We draw a lucky winner every day
Monday to Friday, with Friday as Big Money- we pick 2 winners. Please participate and buy or sell a
ticket. All proceeds go to the academy fundraising goal of $90,000.
Father/Daughter Dance
We are planning a Father/Daughter Dance for April 20th here in our Academy hall. Tickets are on sale in
the office.
All chocolate money is past due. It must be returned to the main office by April 13th or the $60 will be
charged to the accounts of those families who have not returned the mandatory fundraiser.

Snow Day

SCCA will be closed tomorrow Wednesday March 21, 2018 due to the inclement weather.

Be Safe & God Bless.

March News

Dear Families,

March is the liturgical season of Lent, the beginning of Easter, and the start of Spring!  It is a time for us to reflect and renew.  It is the time for our second trimester to end and report card conferences.  We are very busy at St Camillus Catholic Academy.  We have our St Patrick’s Parade, our annual chocolate sale, Rite of Reconciliation for our children preparing for sacraments… Please refer to the academy calendar for all of our events.  Please remember each child (up to two children) is required to sell a box of chocolate.

STEM Science Fair:  We have scheduled our annual Science Fair for March 27th.  This will be our first year to focus on STEM design and inventions instead of conducting an experiment.  Parents are welcome to come by and visit with us to see our “Scientists at work”.

Service Hours:  We have many opportunities coming up…march with St Camillus at Rockaway’s St Patrick Parade on March 3rd .  Bring giveaways to hand out to the crowd and earn service hours. Sell our April Showers of Cash raffle tickets after mass and earn hours. Or join our Golf Committee-first meeting is March 5th at 7pm Remember families are expected to serve the academy- minimum of 25 hours each year or be charged $250.00 fee.

Report Card Conferences:  Parents will receive an appointment sheet to complete and return to schedule conference session with the homeroom teacher.  Families of SCCA who are behind in their tuition will not be allowed to meet with teachers.  The teacher will send home the time for the conference on March 19th.

God bless the students who will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation at St. Camillus on March 24th.
